Selene peeked into classroom after classroom. Most were deserted and dusty, a few held teachers eating lunch or going over papers. Eventually, she opened the door to a smallish but comfortably furnished room containing a few chairs, and walls lined with books. Excellent. She stepped in and began searching the shelves. A third of the room seemed to contain historical documents - boring, and of no use. There was a collection of very dry encyclopedias in both Runic and Traditional, several atlases and Traditional to Various Language dictionaries, a thesaurus, and etcetera, and than a shelf devoted to textbooks. It seemed more likely Selene would get results there. Eventually, she managed to pull a very dusty tome entitled 'Mastering Magic' of the bottom of the shelf, as well as the M encyclopedia. She collapsed into a chair, which let out a cloud of dust, and began to read from the textbook.

Amelia walked in and looked at her favorite book, Using Magical Weapons. It was a very fun thing, using magical weapons and she liked to read up on it. She took the enormous book and she put it on a desk where she sat down and enjoyed the views from the window it was next to.

Deke wandered in, noting with amusement the unabashedly nerdy pursuits of the two girls. Maybe he could find out about foil fencing from this pile of dusty processed trees and animal skins. He stared at a likely shelf, but was finding nothing.

Magic, or A Gift, can be used to help around the house - runic inscriptions on doors and windows, once thoroughly soaked in magic, can help to guard against thieves, or be used as a weapon, see page 379. Selene flipped eagerly through the pages until it was open at 379. Following the instructions, she tentatively raised her palm in front of her, and tried to imagine something that might damage her target. Well, something that burned, I guess. Flaming arrows? A small ball of light formed in her hand. She looked around for a target, and spotted a dry, crumpled leaf hanging off a cobweb on the table, nearby. She flicked her hand towards it. Like a small shooting star, the little ball shot from her hand and seemed to be absobed by the leaf, which then crumpled, smouldering, to the ground. She quickly stuck out a besandaled foot and crushed it. "That worked," she mumbled.

"Nice," Ebeth commented, walking in.

((Twas directed at me, I hope)) "Thanks." Selene gave Ebeth a small smile and flipped to the section about fire. An unlit candle on the little table next to her - excellent. She summoned up a little bit of green fire and touched it to the wick, which spluttered to life. She drew back her hand, and the fire turned the red of a normal flame. Now she tried to touch it, and it burned her finger. Frowning, she looked back at the page, and than at the candle again. She held out her hand again, and tried to think about the flame disappearing. It shuddered for a second, and extinguished.

After being absorbed by her book for awhile she was awaken by the sudden talking and the sound of burning. She looked up to see Selene powering the flames that now appeared to be extinguished.

Selene proceeded to light and unlight the candle until she had mastered the skill and could extinguish the flame with a flick off the wrist. Feeling accomplished, she riffled through the book again.

Ebeth left quietly. There was really nothing for her to do here in the library. She decided to go practice some shooting. Bows and arrows were defintely a weak point with her. She wasn't sure why, as it was the same principle as throwing knives, but for some reason she was good at the former and bad at the latter.

Amelia followed the girl out the door, putting the book down on a table next to her.

Resolving to experiment more later, Selene shoved her book back on the shelf, intending to pursue Ebeth, but then paused and grabbed it again before trotting after the two other girls. No one would miss a dusty book on an obscure subject like this.
