Amelia watched her, criticizing most of her moves and especially her stance.

Mr. U knocked Ebeth's sword away, but didn't disarm her or try to attack. "Come on," he said disapprovingly. "At least try, will you?"

Ebeth rolled her eyes. She swung again, this time a little more alert, and she actually began to follow through. She still couldn't get anywhere near him, however. She managed to parry the few thrusts he gave to her, but a couple times she almost went off balance and fell. At last, she stepped back and put down her sword. "Ok, enough," she said. "You know what i can and can't do. Mostly can't. Let's get on with it."

Selene made a brief, inconspicuous entrance in her usual graceful fashion and slid into place behind a prissy looking elf and a short, gruff sort of dwarf. It was odd; she felt dwarfed in comparison by the pink-clad elf, but looking to the other side, she felt suddenly tall. No matter what, she felt awkward, so rather than observing them, she watched the girl who was training with the instructor. She didn't look very enthusiastic.

Amelia heard the shuffling behind her and whipped around, "Hello, my name is Amelia," she reached her hand out to the girl. ((Just to tell you, her makeover thing at the bottom was only once and she really doesn't look like that.))

((Dahling, if it isn't what she looks like, take it out! Thanks for the warning, though.)) Goodness. People weren't nearly so forward where Selene came from. "It's nice to meet you," said Selene politely, giving Amelia a stiff shake of the hand. "My name is Selene." She turned forwards again, focusing beadily on the instructor and hoping Amelia would take that peircing glare off her.

Deke rotated, startled more by Amelia's high, bright voice than by the sudden appearance of a stranger. Selene, eh? From the few words that had been said, he was left with a favorable impression. Not sarcastic, loud, or...well, blonde. A tally mark of approval went up on the Great Scoreboard of Life.
He nodded to her in a friendly, distant way. His eyes glazed and he began to be bored with Ebeth and her sword-ing.

Mr. U shrugged and lowered his sword. "Who's...um, next?" he asked as Ebeth slipped back into the crowd. "Ah, hello..." he added, noticing Selene. "Are you....um..." he pulled out a sheet of paper and a pair of glasses. "Erm...Selene?" he asked, pronouncing it "Seh-leen" "Did I get that right?" he asked, peering worriedly at her over his glasses.

Though dying inside, Selene hid it with a resolute half-smile and a "It's Seh-lehn-ay." She walked up to the instructor, knowing she was probably holding the foil the wrong way. Realising she was supposed to make the first move, she made a hesitant and cautious lunge, and drew back before it had even made possible contact or, indeed, been blocked. The instructor didn't look impressed, but he gave her an easy jab, and she parried it just in the nick of time, sort of falling out of her stance. ((Minor godmodding, I know. But I think he would have given an easy jab to test her out, and it helped the writing flow.))

Amelia watched the girl and looked at her form. She was all over the place and she needed a lot of work on her form.

((Untrue. It's a disaster.)) Selene blocked again, sloppily, and tripped backwards, hating every moment of this.

((When you tripped backwards, but I changed it.)) Amelia now looked at the last contestant, Deke.

((who said I was the last contestant?))
Deke noticed Amelia staring at him and realized that he might have to try next. What about Thera? She was here before me. Please pick Thera. Or not. I can't embarrass myself too badly. He hadn't used a one-handed weapon in over a year. He couldn't even remember how he was supposed to hold it or stand.
